Growing king oyster mushrooms at home – instructions for your myco-bag

1) Unpacking & Placement: Remove the substrate block from the box, leaving it in the foil, and place it in a bright, well-ventilated location. Temperatures between 15 and 24 °C are ideal.

2) Cut the foil: Make 3 to 4 crosswise cuts in the foil, each approximately 5 cm long. The mushrooms will later grow outwards through these openings on their own. The edges of the foil do not need to be removed or folded back. It is entirely up to you whether you prefer to see the mushrooms growing on top, at the front, or on the side.

3) Moistening: Spray the cut surfaces and the surface of the block with water daily. Keep the substrate evenly moist throughout the entire cultivation period. When fruiting bodies appear, they can be sprayed.

4) Watching mushrooms grow: After a few days, the first small mushroom shoots appear. These usually continue to grow rapidly.

5) Harvesting: Harvest the king oyster mushrooms as soon as they are fully grown by cutting them close to the stem with a clean, sharp knife or carefully twisting them off. Don't wait too long to harvest them to preserve their full flavor.

6) Further harvests: Keep the block moist even after the first harvest. New mushroom shoots often form after a few days, allowing for one or two more harvests.

7) Dispose of the substrate: Once no further mushroom growth is visible, you can dispose of the used substrate in your organic waste bin or compost. It is also well-suited as a natural fertilizer for balcony and garden plants.

Tip: King oyster mushrooms are particularly easy to grow and quickly produce delicious results. Fresh air and consistent humidity are key to success.
