Here's how it works: Activate the Myko-Box correctly and harvest mushrooms at home.
1) Prepare the box: Place the Myko box on a clean, level surface – ideally in the kitchen or a well-ventilated room. You will also find a brief overview on the back of each Myko box.
2) Prepare the opening: Remove the mycelium block from the box. Cut the designated opening in the cardboard sleeve at the marked location, slide the block back in, and then make a cross-shaped cut in the foil at this point. A simple cross-cut is sufficient – the foil does not need to be removed or folded back.
3) Moistening: Carefully spray the exposed area with water. Keep the substrate evenly moist throughout the entire growing period, but avoid waterlogging. If the cardboard or paper band gets a little water on it, that's no problem – both can be disposed of dry in the paper recycling later.
4) Choose a location: Place the myco-box in a bright but not sunny spot at around 15–22 °C. Avoid direct sunlight, dry air from heating systems, and strong drafts. Mushrooms grow towards the light – a bright location ensures even growth.
5) Daily care: Spray the opening with water once or twice a day. If you are unsure whether you are using too much or too little water, you can place the box on a scale: The block weighs approximately 3 kg at ideal humidity.

6) Watching mushrooms grow: After a few days, the first small mushroom buds appear. Depending on the variety, the mushrooms are ready to harvest after about a week.
7) Harvesting: Harvest the mushrooms as soon as they are fully grown by carefully twisting them off close to the substrate or cutting them off with a clean, sharp knife. Don't wait too long to harvest them to preserve their flavor and quality.
8) Multiple harvests: After harvesting, the box needs a short rest period of a few days. Keep the humidity constant and monitor the substrate – often one or two more harvests will follow.
9) Dispose of the substrate: Once no further fungal growth is visible, you can dispose of the substrate via the organic waste bin or compost. It is also excellent as a natural fertilizer for balcony and garden plants.
Note: When tending and harvesting, work as cleanly as possible and wash your hands beforehand. Normal ventilation is sufficient – no special protective measures are necessary. These instructions can also be found on the back of each Myko box.
